Daily Devotion – December 3

Day 337 – December 3

God with us

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
Matthew 18:20

Have you ever noticed when you’re struggling how hard it is to be around people? God created us with a need to spend time alone, in the Word, and in prayer. But He also created us to be relational and do life together.

Whenever we isolate ourselves from each other due to depression or difficult circumstances we may be facing, we do the exact opposite of what we need to do to successfully see God work in and through us. Here’s the deal: Not everyone needs to be who we “gather” with. In fact, a lot of times gathering with the wrong people isn’t wisdom but foolishness on our part. But when God has placed people in our lives who are good and what we’re not, He uses them and us to strengthen each other. Matthew 18 says He is there with us. Now, God is in us at all times, so the argument may be “I don’t need to be with two or three others in Jesus’ name.” But He loves when His people draw near to Him and do so by exercising our strengths and weaknesses for His glory and honor. So if we want to be aware today that Immanuel is true and that God is with us, we must not isolate ourselves, thinking that no one understands what we’re going through. We must instead let iron sharpen iron and God show up and do what only He can do. You’re not alone friend. God is here and there are people who love you and want to help.

We’re more than conquerors in Christ.
